My takes:
Me, Ryan and Tomal watched 3 idiots this Saturday. Coincidence?!:p
A film with a very appropriate name, that tells about the story line and a bit more possibly. There is some poetic justice if the name summarizes the message at least to some extent! In this case I would like to think that it is indeed idiotic to go drastically against the set norms. One needs to create a balance. That's life.
I once read a Humayun Ahmed book called 'Pencil e aka pori'. It was a story of a destitute heroine solving all her problems and so having a happy ending. But the title indicated that this was possible only in the extra-ordinary world. It struck a chord.
Back to 3 Idiots, the film was marketed as idiot being an acronym for I'll Do It On my Terms. Thats fine as well. Its interesting when the name can be translated to multiple perspectives. Like in Heaven on Earth, it could be referring to the First World or the imaginary world. Noam Chomsky's book titles 'Necessary Illusions' and 'Manufacturing Consent' are also very intriguing. Hope I will read them someday.
Ryan inspired to go to Laddakh. This summer? Fingers crossed :).
I did enjoy 3 Idiots and also Wake Up Sid, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Luck By Chance, but there is nothing deep or moving about these. They are good films for one watch but never a classic.
Bollywood films nowadays are improving in the humor/wit/fun arena. On the other hand though, it often appears to me to portray life as very easy. 400 patents in 10 years! The yesteryear's heroes at least had to fight a long and bloody climax to make a happy ending. Nowadays although stories are based on modern life and trends, it seems that anyone can get any job and make a comfortable living out of it. The boring suffering is short lived and the solutions are just round the corner. Only if people had realizations so easily, this world would be a much better place to live. Have you ever seen anyone taking advise and changing his/her perspective or way of life?
Another worldwide obsession (Hollywood might have already recovered though) is the elaborate use of the child delivery process and often as comic situations. Its not good or bad, its just overtly conspicuous.
Oh and if Aamir Khan could not come back to his closest friend and even to the love of his life, how come he revealed himself to the competitive vengeful classmate!
